VESUVIUS (Philippines, 2012)
10min, DCP, Tagalog with English Subtitles
Directed by: Erik Matti
Starring: Gio Alvarez, Lauren Young, Rustica Carpio, Alison Segarra

“People claim to have witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary . However, Catholic Doctrine claims that the era of public apparition ended with the death of the last apostle.” And so begins Erik Matti’s short horror film VESUVIUS.

Made in celebration of Halloween for the YOMYOMF Network (based on the pop culture blog, You Offend Me You Offend My Family) VESUVIUS was part of the horror anthology SILENT TERROR which was released online. Directed by four of Asia’s top horror directors, the series featured tales based in urban legends, local ghost stories and traditions with only one rule: there could be no dialogue. Matti’s short follows a down on his luck man stuck in a dead end job, pining after a girl who doesn’t even seem to know he exists, and taking care of his elderly mother in a small apartment. In short his life is terrible, until one night a Technicolor Virgin Mary appears to him and whispers something in his ear, but what does this apparition really mean for this young man?
