SAVE THE GREEN PLANET - U.S. Theatrical Release

NOTE: Back in 2005, we got hired to help Kino Lorber do the theatrical release of a movie we loved a lot, SAVE THE GREEN PLANET. We wrote and put together this trailer that we’re all very proud of and we designed a website with an “I Need a Hug Button” (when pressed it popped up a window that read, “Need a hug? Too bad! There won’t be anyone around to hug you once aliens have destroyed our planet!”) and a helpful guide to famous aliens hiding in our midst (“Julia Roberts. Alien? Definitely. Often seen licking the heads of human babies, AS IF SHE MIGHT EAT THEM.”, “Maria Shriver. Alien? Yes, has been spotted by California Highway Patrol flying along the coastline at sunset like a bat and swooping down and carrying off dogs.”, “George W. Bush. Alien? His unfamiliarity with spoken English would seem to indicate that he may not be of this Earth.”)

Unfortunately, the movie bombed when it came out, and so between this and SHIRI what we thought would be the beginning of a big career shepherding amazing Asian movies onto American screens ended before it began.

Can you handle the truth about the disgusting alien conspiracy that might just destroy our planet?

Please help us SAVE THE GREEN PLANET!!!

Finally, an Asian movie that matters gets an American release. SAVE THE GREEN PLANET is a tilt-a-whirl genre-blender from Korea that turns film history against itself to create one of the most savage, affecting and inspired anti-violence movies ever made. This is a movie that defies all marketing labels and is exactly what it wants to be: like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Lee Byeong-Gu (Shin Ha-Gyun, JSA) is a sensitive, blue collar sad sack hopped up on conspiracy theories and sci-fi films whose life has been derailed by one bad break after another. Yet he knows there's no such thing as bad luck. The only thing that could have made such a mess of his life are...aliens. Nasty, disgusting aliens who have infiltrated human society. Sly aliens who are planning to destroy our planet at the next lunar eclipse. The one alien possessing the Royal Genetic Code needed to contact the Crown Prince and stop the destruction just happens to be his old boss, CEO of Yuje Chemicals, Kang Man-Shik (Baek Yun-Shik).

So with the help of his circus-performer girlfriend he sets out to kidnap Kang and torture him until he confesses to his alien identity and stops the invasion. Of course, it’s hard to confess to something that’s just a delusion in a sick man’s mind.

First time director Jang Jun-Hwan has marshaled every trick in his cinematic arsenal to unleash a full-out moviemaking assault on the audience. Shot for $4 million, this stylish flick looks like something Terry Gilliam would come up with if he were in a really bad mood. Funny, brilliant and moving, SAVE THE GREEN PLANET is one-of-a-kind.
