FOXY FESTIVAL (Korea, 2010)

Dildos.  Ladies’ undergarments.  Whips and chains.  Stuffed animals.  Come on, admit it: everyone’s got fetish…even your neighbors.  Especially your neighbors.  In the cozy little village of FOXY FESTIVAL, everybody’s got a secret kink or three, and when these disparate stories come together you’re in for the most delightful S&M comedy of the year.

Hypermacho cop Jang-Bae (Shin Ha-Kyun, of Thirst and Joint Security Area) used to be king of the world - a “penis idol” whose bedroom exploits were legend across Korea.  Yet when he discovers that girlfriend Ji-Su (Uhm Ji-Won, The Good, The Bad and the Weird) has surreptitiously purchased a vibrator - and is friendly with an American - his imagination spins out of control.  Schoolgirl Ja-Hae can’t get over her crush on (cough) fish sausage salesman Sang-Du (Ryoo Seung-Bum, The Unjust).  Upstanding teacher Kwang-Rok has a thing for his wife’s underwear.  And upper-crust seamstress Sun-Shim - well, she just wants hardware man Ki-Bong to show her his secret BDSM treasure chest - and to keep coming by her place to fix her plumbing.  With this many freaks in one place, they can’t keep missing each other forever, and as coincidences begin piling up, it’s all about to come together in one big, wet, sticky mess.

Director Lee Hae-Young is best known as Butch to Lee Hey-Jun’s Sundance on their co-directed feature, the delightfully pervy Like a Virgin.  With FOXY FESTIVAL, Hae-Young displays the same giddy fondness for his subjects and their predilections, no matter how down and dirty they might be.  People are people, after all, arousal is arousal, and sex in all its forms is just sex, so why not let everyone enjoy it, and maybe poke some fun at how hung up we can get about it along the way?  We say, enjoy your stuffed fetish dolls.  Get decked out in PVC leather, and steal your spouse’s lacy unmentionables.  FOXY FESTIVAL is the best sex you’re not having at the movies - yet.  Remember to bring protection.
