THE CHALLENGE OF THE LADY NINJA aka CHINESE SUPER NINJA 2 女忍者 (Taiwan, 1982)
Directed by: Lee Tso-Nam
Starring: Elsa Yeung, Chen Kuan-tai, Peng Kong, Robert Tai

From the demented genius that brought us A Life of Ninja, Lee Tso Nam, this film is all about Elsa Yeung in her stealthy bright red ninja suit. She has trained in Japan for 17 years during World War II to become a ninja, and when she returns home to her fiancé Lee Tong (Shaw Brothers star Chen Kuan-tai) she discovers he has killed her father (perhaps he was tired of waiting for her?). Oh, World War II is also somehow set in the 1970s, we assume due to ninja magic. So what’s a lady ninja to do? Recruit other lady ninjas! To teach them the ninja art of disappearing clothes, lipstick poisons (another title for this film was Never Kiss a Ninja), and mud wrestling!

After some sexy training montages the women fight their way through Taiwan to clear the land of Japanese collaborators, and make the world safe for bikini wearing ninjas. They are after Lee Tong, but first they have to get rid of his four martial arts henchmen who each have their own martial arts area of expertise. The newly formed ninja team has to use all of their feminine wiles, ninja poison, and wire flips to beat them. Featuring more sexy illusions, martial arts sub-bosses, smoke bombs, regrettable head tattoos, Taiwanese nationalism, and strange anachronisms than you can shake a katana at!
