THE SHOW MUST GO ON (Korea, 2007)
Directed by: Han Jae-Rim
Starring: Song Kang-Ho, Park Ji-Young, Oh Dal-Su

“A script brimming with crime, comedy and (finally) poignancy gives top South Korean thesp Song Kang-ho ("The Host") free rein...pic swings freely from laughs to drama before settling for a more somber tone in its final quarter. – Russell Edwards, Variety

Straight outta Cannes comes the premiere of this Korean gangster comedy/drama starring Song Kang-Ho (The Host, Secret Sunshine, The Foul King) that took the number one slot at the Korean box office when it opened. Taking the concept of The Sopranos and punting it hard and high, first time director Han Jae-Rim tells the story of a low level gangster, Kang (Song Kang-Ho), who has to (unsuccessfully) juggle raising a family and beating the crap out of his enemies. Not the brightest tool in the box he’s constantly being outwitted and out-fought by both the people he tries to terrorize, and his family who aren’t even slightly impressed by his tough guy act.

Starting off with a series of set pieces that deliver the action, then settling into a funny domestic rhythm, SHOW manages to transcend its genre trappings and becomes a moving look at a man pulled in too many directions trying to make his own bumbling, hard-headed way in the world.
